What should I expect from a Reiki Session?

Reiki is offered through light, non-invasive touch to a fully clothed recipient lying down.  Hands may be placed on a series of locations around the head, torso, legs, feet, and arms.

The experience of Reiki varies from person to person, session to session. Recipients have felt refreshed, grounded, relaxed, and balanced.  Some have reported a great night's sleep with vivid, vibrant dreams following a reiki session.

What should I do doing a session?

Nothing! But here are a few tips:

1. Use the restroom before the session begins.

2. If you are shy about being touched, ask the practitioner to show you the hand placements before starting so you know what to expect.

3. Let the practitioner know your needs before you start.  For example, if lying on your back is uncomfortable, say so.  If you have had surgery and dont want to be touched near the scar, say so.  The practitioner can float their hands above the area. If your knee pain flared up in a run recently, let the practitioner know so extra focus can be paid to that area.

4. Enjoy the music, breathe, daydream or observe sensations of the Reiki session.

What happens after a session?

Although most people feel refreshed, you might feel a bit more tired than usual.  That is completely normal and not a bad thing.  This is the body's natural healing response and should be honored.  Drink lots of water, take a bath, and/or go to bed early.  Most importantly, listen to what your body is telling you.

How many sessions should I receive?

Reiki is cumulative and although you might not notice much from your first session, people usually have progressively deeper experiences if they continue.

Three to four sessions is usually recommended because it allows you time to digest the benefits you are receiving.

Maintain an open dialogue with your practitioner on how best to honor your needs and schedule.
